what Real. is

Real. is an anonymous social writing app operated by Olyte Inc., a Canadian corporation. You post text. You have to post before you can read. That's the whole thing.

who can use Real.

You must be at least 17 years old. You must have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement in your country. If you use Real. on behalf of an organization, you personally agree to these terms.

your account

You choose a username. You choose a password. You are responsible for keeping your password safe. We do not have a way to recover a lost password beyond the security question you set at signup — if you lose both, your account is unrecoverable. That is the trade-off of not requiring an email address.

One person, one account is expected. You can sign in on multiple devices with the same account.

what you can post

Real. allows raw, honest, emotional writing. That includes profanity, dark themes, sexual references, political extremity, and slurs used as expression. We are deliberately not sanitized. The point is honesty.

The following are not allowed and will be removed:

• Content that sexualises or endangers minors. Any suspected instance is reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
• Specific, credible threats of violence against a named person or place.
• Doxxing: publishing someone's real name, address, phone number, workplace, or other identifying information without consent.
• Spam: repeated identical or near-identical posts, obvious commercial promotion, link farming, bot-generated gibberish.
• Content that violates the intellectual property rights of others.
• Content whose primary purpose is to organize real-world harm.

Everything else stays up. If you find something offensive, you can report it, block the poster, or simply move on. Being made uncomfortable by other people's honesty is not a violation of these terms.

what you own, what we can do with it

You own what you post. By posting on Real., you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute your content within the app so it can appear where it's meant to appear. This license ends when you delete the content or delete your account, subject to reasonable backup retention.

We do not use your posts to train AI models. We do not sell your posts to third parties. We do not use your posts in advertising.

private threads and comments

Private threads are visible only to the two people in the thread. Public comments on a post are visible to anyone who can see the post. Do not share screenshots of private threads without the other person's consent — doing so violates these terms even though we can't technically prevent it.

Plus subscription

Real. Plus is an optional paid subscription that unlocks additional features. The features covered by Plus are described in the app. Prices are shown at the point of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled.

You can cancel at any time in your account settings. Cancellation stops future renewals; you retain Plus access through the end of your paid period. Refunds follow the platform's standard refund policy (Apple, Google, or Stripe depending on how you subscribed).

termination

You can delete your account at any time in the app or at joinreal.app/delete-account. Deletion is permanent.

We can suspend or terminate an account for violation of these terms. Serious violations (CSAM, credible threats, doxxing) result in immediate permanent ban. Less serious violations may result in warnings, temporary suspensions, or content removal.

disclaimers

Real. is provided as-is. We do not guarantee it will be available at all times, free of bugs, or fit for any particular purpose. We do not guarantee the accuracy, safety, or appropriateness of anything anyone else posts. You use the app at your own risk.

Anonymity is a design goal, not a legal promise. We take reasonable steps to prevent your identity from being connected to your posts, but no system is perfect. If your safety depends on absolute anonymity, do not rely solely on Real.

limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Olyte Inc.'s total liability to you for any claim arising out of your use of Real. is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you have paid us in the past 12 months, or (b) fifty Canadian dollars.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ontario, Canada. If you are a consumer in another jurisdiction, you may have additional rights under your local law that these terms cannot override.

changes

We may update these terms. If we change them in a way that materially affects your rights, we will notify you in the app. Continued use after a material change means you accept the updated terms.
