Privacy policy.
Last updated 21 August 2026.
When you sign up, we create an account with a username you choose and a password you set. We do not ask for an email, phone number, or real name.
When you post, comment, or send a private message, we store what you wrote so it can appear where it is meant to appear. Public posts are visible to other users of Real. Private threads are only visible to the two people in that thread.
We store which posts you have hearted, saved, or reacted to, and which posts you have already read, so the app can behave correctly on your device and across devices you sign in on.
We record anonymous usage events (which screens are visited, which buttons are tapped, how long a story took to read) to understand how the app is used. These events are tied to a random identifier for your account, never to your username or the content of your posts.
We do not use your posts to train AI models. We do not share your posts with advertisers. We do not sell any of your data to anyone.
Public posts: visible to everyone using Real., attributed only to your chosen username. Not searchable outside Real.
Public comments: visible to anyone reading the post you commented on, attributed to your username.
Private threads: visible only to you and the other person in the thread. Not visible to Real. staff except when reviewing a report.
Journal entries: visible only to you. Not visible to anyone else, including Real. staff, except in the rare event of a legal request that requires access.
Reactions (hearts, saves): the counts are public. Who reacted is not. Nobody can see the list of people who hearted or saved a post.
We use Supabase to store data, PostHog to record anonymous usage events, Sentry to see when the app crashes, and Cloudflare to prevent bot signups. None of these services receive information that identifies you as a real-world person.
If law enforcement issues a valid legal request (subpoena, court order), we may be required to share what we have. What we have is limited to what is listed above. We do not have your real name.
You can delete your account at any time. In the app, this is available in your profile settings. Deleting your account removes your username, your posts, your comments, your messages, your journal entries, your reactions, and your account record.
You can also delete your account from the web without opening the app: joinreal.app/delete-account.
If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK-GDPR, and CCPA respectively. You can exercise those rights by emailing us at the address below.
Real. is not intended for anyone under 17. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 17. If you believe a minor is using Real., email us and we will remove the account.
If we change this policy in a way that affects what we collect or how we use it, we will update the date at the top and, if the change is material, notify you in the app.
Questions or requests: privacy@joinreal.app.
